Report 31st December 2006
A flurry of matches before Christmas saw Ely
Victoria romp to the top of Newmarket Badminton Federation Men’s Division One
with good wins over St Edmunds, Crossways A and a 6-0 thumping for the weakened
side of potential contenders, Newmarket A.
Burwell once again showed their knack or upsetting form by holding Ely
to a draw at home, but bizarrely only managed the same result after winning no
games on the night at home to Newmarket A, who had to concede 3 out of 6 games
by being a man short.
Littleport charge to the top of Men’s Division Two
with 5 wins, honours going to Crossways B who did manage to hold them to a
draw.
In Women’s Division One Newmarket B had mixed
fortunes. They lost heavily 5½-½ to St.
Phillips, who will be pleased to have reversed last year’s performance, but beat
Haverhill who slide after also losing against Newmarket A.
In Women’s Division Two Little Shelford continue
unbeaten with a win over Littleport who at least picked up their first points
at home to Crossways, winning 5-1.
Ely Victoria still head Mixed Division One with two
more wins, away to Borders and a 6-3 Saturday night home advantage win again
for Ely, hosting Newmarket A, despite Scott Perkins and Sue Sriskanden scoring
maximum 3 points for Newmarket.
Two home wins for Howard, 7-2 against Con Club and
8½-½ against Newmarket B, sees them move ahead of the pack in Mixed Division
Two, but still well behind Linton who beat Burwell 5½-3½ and St. Phillips B
8-1.
Soham A stay ahead in Mixed Division Three, now with
clear space after wins at home, against Littleport 9-0, Soham B 8-1 and a draw
against Crossways. Hawks still look
contenders, staying second after winning away at Crossways 6½-2½.
